What are Play Points and why do I need them?
You earn Play Points by attending Pokémon leagues and other tournaments but to qualify for play points you need to have a trainer account on www.pokemon.com and also need to have selected yes to the option to participate in the Play Pokémon Program. For full details on opting in and setting up your training account click here
Play Points are not as important as they used to but can be important if you are thinking of attending some of the larger events as Pokémon may sometimes require players to have earned a particular number of play points before they can register for that tournament. Juniors however are normally able to play regardless of how many play points they have earned.
Play Points are awarded as follows:-
For attending Pokémon leagues you earn 1 play point for each league season, of which there are up to 12 in a year.
League Challenges earn 1 play point
League Cups earn 2 play points
Regional Championships earn 3 play points
International Championships earn 5 points
Pre-release events earn 1 play point
You can find out how many Play Points you have by checking your trainer account online.
